Different vehicle types serve different purposes. But, when it comes to blending all the best attributes, none are more capable than the tried-and-true SUVs. Available in two and three-row versions, they offer roomy accommodations for the whole family. Their versatile interiors allow you to easily configure seating and cargo capacities to suit the occasion, and they often provide more robust engines and added capability away from the asphalt.

SUVs and crossovers continue their rapid rise in popularity and have been one of the most common vehicle types around the Burlington area for a while now. SUVs deliver greater ground clearance and available all-wheel-drive, making them an ideal choice for navigating Vermont winters. Subaru models like the Outback and Forester are among the most popular, but other models like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V are carving their own niches.

At Handy Toyota, we're proud to offer a vast and diverse inventory ofĀ quality pre-owned SUVs and crossoversĀ from the industry's most trusted brands. On our website, you'll find everything from city-going subcompact crossovers, to full-size family movers. Here's a quick look at some of our favorite SUV offerings.

Discover some of the more popular SUVs on the Burlington roads:

Toyota RAV4

A compact crossover with seating for five, the RAV4 provides an outstanding blend of passenger accommodation and cargo capacity. With the 60/split second-row folded down, the RAV4 offers just shy of 70 cubic feet. The 203-horsepower 2.5-liter engine pairs with a smooth and precise eight-speed automatic transmission to deliver up to an EPA-estimated 35 mpg on the highway. As its name suggests, the TRD Off-Road trim raises the RAV4's trail-tackling capabilities, and, like all Toyota's, late-model RAV4's come standard with driver aids like adaptive cruise control, and automatic emergency braking.

Chevy Equinox

Refined and stylish, the Chevy Equinox is as good looking as it is accommodating. It provides roomy seating for five riders and up to 63.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the front row. Many late-model-year options come standard with an easy-to-navigate and feature-packed 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration.

Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee

The Jeep brand is synonymous with SUVs and adventure, and the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee are perfect examples. The Cherokee is a compact crossover that delivers expert handling both on and off the road. It's comfortable for journeys of all distances, and the fold-flat rear seats allow you to maximize the 55 cubic feet of cargo space. The Cherokee offers three engine options, including a burly V-6 and a zippy and efficient turbocharged four-cylinder.

Toyota Highlander

A three-row mid-size crossover with seating for up to eight people, the Toyota Highlander is an excellent choice for larger adventure-loving families. The available 3.5-liter V-6 engine (295 horsepower, 263 pound-feet of torque) provides plenty of propulsion for merging onto the highway. With up to 83.2 cubic feet of max cargo capacity, there's plenty of room for all your gear. The cabin provides excellent noise insulation, and late-model Highlanders come standard with the Toyota Safety Sense suite of advanced driver aids.

Ford Explorer

One of the most recognizable names in the industry, the Ford Explorer helped usher in the modern SUV era. The interior is highly accommodating, with three rows of roomy seating and available comfort and convenience amenities like heated and ventilated seats, a power-folding third-row, premium leather upholstery, and adaptive cruise control. The Explorer offers several available engine options, including V-6 and turbocharged four-cylinder powerplants. The Explorer seats seven and offers more than 80 cubic feet of max cargo capacity.

The Grand Cherokee is the bigger brother to the Cherokee. However, instead of adding a third-row, the Grand Cherokee reserves the extra space for cargo, making it an excellent option for weekend adventure seekers. Behind the rear seats, it offers 36.3 cubic feet, and with the rear seats folded, that space grows to nearly 70 cubic feet. The Grand Cherokee provides standard V-6 power and multiple V-8 upgrades.

If you're looking to take your adventures off the beaten path, both the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee are available in Trailhawk trims. These versions equip special all-wheel-drive systems, electronic differentials, terrain-selectable traction controls, off-road-tuned suspensions, skid-plates, and more.

Toyota 4Runner

Large and in charge, the Toyota 4Runner expertly combines spacious family accommodations with impressive off-road capability. This mid-size SUV features a powerful 4.0-liter V-6 (270 horsepower, 278 pound-feet of torque) and can tow up to 5,000 pounds. The 4Runner is also extremely versatile, with several trim and seating combinations to serve a variety of needs. It's offered in two- and three-row seating configurations and multiple trim levels that emphasize off-road capability, luxurious accommodations, or both.

Honda CR-V

A compact crossover with seating for five and an immense cargo area, the Honda CR-V is a quintessential representation of the segment. Front and rear passengers can ride in comfort with plenty of headroom and legroom throughout. And with the 60/40-split back seat folded, max cargo capacity extends to 75.8 cubic feet. We like the available turbocharged engine option for its strong combination of power and efficiency.

Subaru Outback

The Subaru Outback is one of the most popular cars in Vermont, and for good reasons. With its high ground clearance and standard symmetrical all-wheel-drive, it's a worthy match against Vermont's challenging winters. The Outback provides roomy seating for five and a perfect ride height for entering and exiting with ease. With all seats in place, there are still 35.5 cubic feet for your groceries, luggage, camping gear, etc. With the seats folded, that space expands to 73.3 cubic feet.

Subaru Forester

Another popular model for Vermonters, the Forester stands out for the same reasons as the Outback. It comes standard with all-wheel-drive, provides ample cargo capacity, and has 8.7 inches of ground clearance. The Forester has a slightly smaller max cargo capacity (70.9 cubic feet), but the reduced dimensions allow it to more comfortable navigate tighter parking spots and crowded streets.
