Chris Dugan - January 2011 Employee Spotlight

Employee Spotlight for January 2011
Christopher M Dugan - Internet Manager

You, the reader, are quite possibly right this very second wondering how this website came to be, or at least how it bloomed into its current state.  Due to the meticulous organization and proper grammar, the down-to-earth topics in many of the daily blogs, the multiple types of online media in which Handy's operates, along with all the other venues you may think it is thanks to a full IT team deep in the catacombs of Handy Toyota who constantly churn out the great items you see today.  But one may be surprised to know that this is all done by one man:  the Internet Manager of Handy Toyota, Christopher Dugan.

There could be no better candidate for January 2011's employee spotlight than Chris as his devotion to and pride in his position far surpass the expectations of his superiors.  His perfectionist qualities have driven our web statistics through the roof since his start just nine months ago and, speaking of which, he has been the internet manager during his entire tenure.  His time management skills have been mastered due to the plethora of work he puts into four spate yet unified Handy Automotive websites as well as from the progress he has made with our social media outings.

Chris' knowledge of the internet sector probably surpasses those of most IT specialists in big corporate settings, as he can give you a textbook definition with a real world example of any web-related term or acronym you could possibly need to know.  Further, his all around knowledge of computers has made him a perfect conduit for his managerial position.

Born right here in Saint Albans, VT, Chris has lived here for 25 of his 26 years.  He lived in our nation's capital Washington, D.C. for a short time to achieve, in his words, "a change in scenery," as well as to make the typical post-college pilgrimage away from home.  Chris's hobbies include web design (go figure), playing and watching hockey, playing video games, writing, reading, and watching films.  Also, from sharing an office with him it has become very clear that he is a "clean freak" as he's proclaimed.  If he were to get a freebie, his dream vehicle is a 1986 BMW M6 in mint condition, and if that wasn't available he would love a new 2011 Toyota 4Runner Limited or a 2011 Toyota Tundra Rock Warrior--he couldn't quite decide between the two.  When I asked him what Toyota vehicle he was most similar to (in his own reasons), he told me it was certainly the Highlander Hybrid:  "[it has] enough power to make due, [it's] super-efficient and easy on the eyes" he said with a laugh.  He insisted that I add the fact that he quickly asserted that in reality he's not quite that vain.

As I said above, Chris is an avid gamer.  He is a level 12 gamer as per the Playstation Network's rating scheme (since I'm an Xbox fan I can't attest to the quality of that sore, but considering many only have a level 2 or 3 I suppose that's good!) with over 1,100 accrued trophies.  When he's not gaming, he works on his own website, a video game review site that he writes and designs 90% of in entirety.  He was influenced by the designer of a well known game called "Bejeweled" who started his own video game review blog whilst he was in college.  This developer went on to make a website in the same mentality as Chris', then created the Bejeweled game, a "casual" game for those who do not usually play video games.  Although this is one of Chris' leading influences, he does not plan on becoming a developer himself but rather uses this forum as a means of research and development, only to adapt his leanings to the Handy websites.

Chris is also unique in that he is the only one of all 600,000 Vermonters with a documented case of Myatonia Congenita.  Better known as muscular dystrophy, he is proud of his condition because he has never accepted even a single dollar of disability funding, believing that there are people who deserve the money more than he, not to mention he can clearly work.  He also boasts about the fact that he knows more about the Montreal Canadiens, an NHL hockey franchise, than most of the general public and fans alike.  He does make exceptions for his friend Dustin who may know just as much as well as Handy Chevrolet's Mario Nardelli who is in fact from Montreal, PQ.

For school, Chris studied at the University of Vermont, majoring in Sociology with a minor in English.  But thanks to his friend Adam, eCommerce Manager of Handy's, who Chris knew his whole life, he got his foot in the door of a job he said "[I'm] going out on a limb here, I am... well... pretty good at."

I suppose the verdict is out on that my friends, and you, the reader, are the jury.  For more information on Chris, send him an email at cdugan@handycars.com, or call him directly at 888-352-5749 x21.
