A lot of companies are content to let progress peak then ride that product out, draining as many dollars from the unsuspecting consumer as possible--Not Toyota, and certainly not the Sienna. We've all heard the rapping Parental duo on You Tube spouting their love for their Swagger Wagon, and the video has become viral for a reason: it's legitimate. Sure, the idea of a couple of dorky parents isn't the truth, but the love that Sienna owner's have for their vehicle is really unprecedented. But what makes this love so strong? Just ample room for a full family of eight? Power and handling, or luxury items like DVD players and JBL sound systems? The short answer is no. As stated, not only have all the fan favorites come back in full force, they have grown and expanded the Sienna into a sub genre of sorts, no longer classified as a "soccer Mom vehicle" or strictly a minivan. We have 25-year old bachelors coming in asking for the Sienna by name, requesting the high models with more power, better handling, and all the options for a fun night out on the town with the boys, such as this Sienna SE shown above.
This
years iteration, the 2011 Toyota Sienna, is built on the same platform
as it's last-year brethren, only enhanced a great deal. Riding on the same 119.3 inch wheel base, handling is nothing short of spectacular. The first time you hug a corner you'll think you're in a rally car--the top heavy feeling of some lesser vans is none to apparent for 2011.Exterior style is something that really catches the eye, and though the 2010 was none to horrible in terms of flash, the early incarnations were rather bland. To keep the momentum of the 2010 series, the 2011 has been fitted with super-aerodynamic body moldings, quasi-ground effect body kits (as you see to the right), and a drag coefficient of only 0.31, absurdly low for a vehicle of this stature.Other increases in fashion sense come in the form of the headlights and taillights, giving this a Toyota Matrix-feel. Snappy fog lights and rear fog lights make this a truly beautiful vehicle, completely abolishing the formerly faux-pas word "minivan," becoming something entirely new and entirely pleasing to see, drive, and travel within.
As stated, the body has been completely overhauled, as evidenced by the picture to the left. Subtle tweaks like the tuner-appearance of the fog lamps give the 2011 Toyota Sienna SE some much needed flair. Again, no longer is this a vehicle made exclusively for stay-at-home parents and grocery store cowboys, instead, this versatile minivan can accommodate a large array of uses. With the optional roof rack, throwing a canoe or your snowboard for a weekend getaway to Lake Champlain or Smugglers Notch in Jeffersonville, Vermont is no longer out of your reach. With optional all-wheel drive and 22 miles per gallon on the highway, your Sienna SE will stay glued to the road, significantly more important in the horrid winter months of Vermont, and you'll get there with a great deal of gasoline savings when compared to other makes. And we all know these getaways you'll need a lot of gear, and the removable/sliding seats in the second and third rows allow for so much room you'll be hard pressed to find a way to fill it. Should you find the appropriate quantity of gear, this cavernous monster will swallow gladly swallow a large amount.
The elegant style of the 2011 Toyota Sienna SE doesn't stop at flashy looking items such as some ground effects, though. To the left, you see the wheels and tires on the Sienna SE. Featuring Dunlop Sport 2000e tires and 19-inch, six-spoke alloy wheels. The Dunlop Sport 2000e ultra high-performance tires are great for all-season driving, and when coupled with the excellent performance of the Sienna SE's all-wheel drive system, there is hardly a better choice out there, accommodating Sunday-drivers and speed-freaks alike.Superb wet traction, increased contact area during cornering, excellent shape retention and longevity are all principles of this tire when used on the Sienna SE, but we all know that the Sienna's forte is comfort, and this gorgeous wheel and tire combination never lack in this department either. All in all, whatever the use, the Sienna excels in control, comfort, and safety. Also on this year's 2011 Sienna SE is the Star Safety System by Toyota, allowing for even more peace of mind whether transporting children, family members, or any other form of precious cargo (click here for Star Safety System information from Handy Toyota).
Creature Comforts
The Interior of the 2011 Toyota Sienna SE
You may want to know about the inside, right? Well fear not Sienna lovers, as this year's Sienna has been totally revamped to not only improve on what it excelled at previously, but it makes certain that you'll have a hard time leaving your minivan for the comfort of your couch--why would you when the luxurious seating and open area makes for a mobile living room complete with optional DVD players, JBL sound systems and a six disc changer?
As we all know, especially you current Sienna owners out there, the interior has always been as much about safety and comfort as anything else. With three rows capable of fitting eight individuals comfortably with room to spare for cargo, this Sienna SE is more of a bus than a minivan in the sense of space, though it still handles more like a sedan. The 2011 Toyota Sienna SE comes with dual power-sliding doors, which can open with the simple pull of the door handle or a click of the key fab. The rear cargo door or rear lift gate also opens in the same fashion, making a arm load of groceries easily peaceable in the large cargo bay in the trunk.Again, safety is a prime concern for Toyota and always has been, and the Sienna could be one of the leaders in that regard featuring dual front airbags, head airbags in all three rows, side curtain airbags mounted on the seat, ABS brakes, the Star Safety System, a back-up camera for safe driving in reverse, among several other important features.
Other features in the cabin include air conditioning and a top of the line Toyota air filtration unit, keeping you and your family or friends breathing the cleanest air possible, specifically important to our Southern New York friends who may suffer from a bit more smog and such than our pure Green Mountain State.
Reading lights are available for night time voyages, along with a satellite capable stereo system and a CD player with a louder-than-life system.
The dash mounted compass keeps you on track, and the eight-way adjustable driver's seat keeps you comfortable in case the unfortunate happens and you find yourself lost. With the second row of removable seats, even a seven-foot tall person could make a ten-hour trip in fantastic comfort.
As far as power options, everything is included, from windows, locks, aforementioned doors and the lift gate, and everything else you'd expect to find in the luxury minivan of choice for the elegant-minded shopper.
Raw Power to Spare
What's Under the Hood?
For those of you expecting a casual Sunday drive, the 2011 Toyota Sienna SE is a more than apt choice, but some of us just need to throw the pedal to the metal and bomb through some dirt roads in Fairfield, maybe take it to the Sand Pits in Highgate for some high-intensity "rest and relaxation," or just fly to Burlington, VT because you're running late for a meeting. While Handy Toyota of St. Albans does not condone speeding, we're just reporting the facts--and the fact is, this stylish van is more than equipped to let your inner speed-demon run wild.Equipped with a 3.5-Liter V6 engine pushing a whopping 265 horsepower and 245 pound-feet of torque, this powerhouse will give a large amount of vehicles on the road a run for their money. The above stated All-wheel drive will keep you flying around corners as well, and the EPA estimated 22 miles per gallon on the highway means you won't go broke at the pump. Our review driver's mind was scrambled when he took it out for a spin, reporting the pick up was reminiscent of the Toyota Venza, save for the weight difference, and this makes sense since they share a similar engine and All-wheel drive performance.
